Timothy and Jacqueline Fish adopted an infant son from Columbia 12 years ago and have since contemplated another adoption via other routes.
Through Kidsave, the Zionsville family has found a way to host a child in need of a forever family.
The Kidsave organization's goal is to shine a light on older children who need families but are often overlooked.
“I had a friend who hosted a child last summer,” Fish said. “The kids are identified through social workers in Colombia. They go to a camp for two weeks to prepare them for the experience. The kids think of it as a vacation, with goals to have fun and perhaps learn more English.”
Host families may write to their host child and provide pictures. Then for five weeks over this summer, 50 Colombian children have joined families across the United States.
“Our goal is to advocate, advocate, advocate,” Fish said. “We want to find families interested in meeting with the child.”
