Winter Miracles Kids Arrive for the Holidays
After a long flight from Colombia, our first group of Winter Miracles kids arrived in Atlanta, filled with excitement (and maybe some nerves, too.) Hosts families – equally excited and anxious – lined the arrivals hall, waiting to greet the kids. with handmade signs, snacks, and even some teddy bears!
All nerves were soon replaced by smiles as the kids arrived in Los Angeles, New York, Tennessee, Chicago, Missouri, and Indiana, with our Winter Miracles communities out in force to welcome them. That first moment of seeing each other, the hurried runs towards open arms filled the area with joy and more than a few happy tears.
The 17 kids traveling from Colombia are looking forward to 3 weeks of new experiences, new places, and learning new things. Each child will stay with their host families as the families champion the kids, introducing them to their local communities to find adoptive forever families.
Winter Miracles is an extension of our Summer Miracles program, which sees 4 out of 5 kids who travel find adoptive families on their first trip — a success rate we’ve proudly maintained since launching the program in 1999.
This year our goal is for all 17 kids to find forever families!
Local community events are being held during the kids’ stay so prospective adoptive families can meet the kids while they are here. Across the U.S., the community events are a great way to increase the chances of finding the kids forever families and an excellent way for the host families and kids to meet each other regularly and build that all-important support network.
