At Kidsave, volunteers are the lifeblood of our organization, helping us achieve our mission of finding forever families for older children in foster care. Their contributions of time, energy, and love create lasting changes in the lives of many children who might otherwise be overlooked. The dedication and commitment of our volunteers make a significant impact not only on the children we serve but also on the volunteers themselves.

“I’ve been volunteering with Kidsave on and off for about 10 years and more steadily involved for the past five years,” says Robyn, Kidsave’s volunteer coordinator. “It gave me an opportunity to occupy my mind after my daughter went to college, and I couldn’t think of a better way to spend my time than giving back to Kidsave.”

Her story highlights the profound personal fulfillment that comes from volunteering. “I was a Weekend Miracles host in the beginning, and, I remain deeply involved,” said Robyn. “Volunteering is so important because, regardless of our situation, there are always others who need our help. Giving back doesn’t always have to be financial; your time and effort are just as valuable.”

Robyn also emphasizes the importance of diversity among volunteers. “In communities like LA, many of the kids are Black or Brown. It would be nice to see more volunteers who look like these kids because representation matters. Seeing people who look like them and care about their futures is incredibly important to them.”

Volunteering at Kidsave not only changes the children’s lives but also profoundly affects their own. “It makes me feel good that I am helping in some way and being able to change someone’s life,” said Robyn. “When you meet these kids and see them with their forever families, it’s amazing to think that the trajectory of their life is completely changed by our efforts.”

Natalie, another dedicated volunteer, reinforces this sentiment by addressing common misconceptions about volunteering.

“Too often people think that getting involved with an organization is going to be so demanding of their time or resources,” she said. “The point of volunteerism is that you’re volunteering on your terms. You become the facilitator for these children to feel comfortable meeting potential connected future families or mentors.”

There are many ways to get involved with Kidsave and make a difference in the lives of kids in foster care:

  1. Support our Weekend Miracles events in Los Angeles and Houston.
  2. Be a volunteer driver.
  3. Support our Summer Miracles events in our communities.

  5. Help us advocate by sharing the kids’ stories on social media.
  6. Volunteer at our office in Los Angeles.
  7. Provide pro bono work in marketing, communications, videography/photography, and translation of Spanish or Ukrainian.
