Kidsave’s recent Weekend Miracles event in Houston was an opportunity for older kids in foster care to connect with caring adults and potentially find their forever families. The atmosphere was lively as families and children gathered to share pizza and unleash their creativity by coloring and drawing on craft paper, setting the stage for an afternoon filled with discovery.
The highlight of the event was a 45-minute live science show, where a few lucky kids were invited on stage to assist in fun, hands-on experiments. Their excitement was contagious, captivating both the children and the adults who cheered them on from the audience. The interactive presentation fostered a joyous environment, helping break the ice and spark connections.
After the science show, everyone switched things up with a fun game of “Taco, Cat, Goat, Cheese, Pizza,” which randomly mixed the group into smaller teams for some get-to-know-you questions. Each person rolled a dice with prompts and shared a bit about themselves before passing it to the next participant. It was a great way to build connections and create a sense of community.
The day wrapped up on a festive note with a birthday celebration for four attendees: Zek, Jennifer, Jeremy, and Kidsave staff member Heather. Their special day was marked with well wishes and applause, further adding to the warmth of the event.
In November, the group will embark on a hike, a chance for the kids to explore the outdoors and bond further with their potential families.
