Nina Teed, a Summer Miracles DC Metro alum, has found her own unique way to support Kidsave! Nina moved with her adoptive parents, Phil and Nancy Teed, to Vermont in 2006. The family bought a toy store, Once Upon a Time Toys, in Stowe. In 2008 Phil died suddenly leaving a big hole in their lives. However, these women are survivors and they went to work building their business as the go-to place for toys in the area.
Nina, sensitive and compassionate, has always wanted to help people, especially kids. For many years she spent the holiday season in the toy store running a gift-wrapping service – and she gave the proceeds to Kidsave. This has grown in to “It’s a Wrap,” a gift-wrapping service that provides the proceeds to Kidsave and the Lund Foundation, a Vermont organization that helps kids find families. So for every holiday gift purchased online at Once Upon a Time Toys, you can request gift wrapping and support Kidsave!
Nina graduated from Johnson State College with a degree in psychology and is now working with adults with disabilities. She links her clients to the community, helping them with everything from navigating the Social Security system to helping them pack to running interference when they run into trouble. Her mom says, “She initially turned down the position because she would not be working with kids, but they wouldn’t let her refuse. It is challenging, and she loves it.”
