Kidsave, an organization that advocates for change in child welfare systems so older kids grow up in families, is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Kassey James to Kidsave’s Board of Trustees.
For over a decade, Dr. James has served as a devoted child advocate as a foster parent, Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteer, host family, and a proud adoptive mom. She adopted two older children from the Texas foster care system in 2021, making her a mother of five.
“For my birthday this year, my adopted daughter wrote me a letter, saying ‘thank you for not giving up on me. I love you,” said Dr. James. “This is what teens, who are often considered un-adoptable, need. Someone to stand by them, no matter what. Someone to love them first. This truth, along with my own childhood experiences, makes Kidsave’s work so crucial and close to my heart.”
Dr. James found her passion for child advocacy through her healing journey after having experienced abuse as a child. She triumphed and broke through an inter-generational cycle of disadvantage, becoming the first person in her family to graduate with a doctorate.
“Kassey is an incredible advocate for kids in foster care. She deeply understands the challenges they face in care and through her daughters, the challenges they continue to face once they move into families,” said Randi Thompson, Kidsave co-founder and CEO. “Her achievements, despite her hardships, inspire us, and we are happy to have her on our team of dedicated Board leaders.
Dr. James is a Medical Science Liaison at Ashfield, part of UDG Healthcare. In her role, she establishes and maintains collaborative peer-to-peer relationships with key opinion leaders and healthcare professionals through scientific interactions and disease state education. She is an innovative and strategic leader who strives to improve patient outcomes.
Dr. James holds a Doctor of Pharmacy and Masters in Health Administration from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine and a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Lamar University.
She is currently working on her first book. It will be a memoir about her resilience to succeed against the odds. She hopes to one day deliver a TED Talk to inspire others to overcome challenges and get more people involved in child advocacy to develop a better future for the next generation.
Kidsave, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) charity, helps older children and teens living in U.S. residential facilities, foster homes, group homes, and orphanages overseas find forever families and lasting connections. A volunteer-driven effort, Kidsave works with governments and communities worldwide to see that no orphan or child in foster care is forgotten and grows up in a family with love and hope for a successful future.
