Fall Into Family
We recently held our annual Fall Festival event with our LA Weekend Miracles kids and families! We are in the midst of the season; leaves are changing colors (yes, even in LA), apple cider and pumpkin spice abound, and everyone’s feeling thankful for their loved ones. It was the perfect time to gather for an afternoon of autumn activities.
The weather was pleasantly warm for the end of October as kids and families gathered at Lake Balboa Park. We were fortunate to have volunteers from the LA County Bar Association (LACBA) and LA Trial Lawyers’ Charities (LATLC) who helped the event run smoothly.
As the kids excitedly spoke with each other and got to know the families there, we had a delicious lunch set up for them. A variety of sandwiches were the feast of the day, but we also had an extra special treat of ice cream sundaes! LACBA and LATLC helped set up a full sundae bar, complete with four ice cream flavors, bananas, hot fudge, Moschino cherries, etc. Our dutiful volunteers kept the sundaes flowing throughout the afternoon while the kids enjoyed the day’s activities.
We had plenty of fun options to keep the kids and families engaged. There was a “mummy-making station” where kids used rolls of toilet paper to turn each other into mummies, a slime station, and so much more. It was the perfect backdrop for building connections and enjoying the warmth of family.
About Weekend Miracles
There are many wonderful kids in our Weekend Miracles program in need of a host or adoptive families. These older kids in foster care are growing up without the stability and love that all kids need to thrive. If you’re interested in adopting or hosting an older kid, please contact us. We’re happy to answer any questions and help you get started. Email us at weekendmiracles@kidsave.org to learn more.
