Kidsave recently hosted a Weekend Miracles event in Los Angeles at Servicon headquarters, bringing together older kids in foster care and caring adults for a Halloween-themed afternoon. The day began with lunch, allowing attendees to mingle before diving into the activities. Each child received a gift bag to collect candy from various stations, kicking off an early trick-or-treat celebration.

After lunch, participants split up into groups and rotated through multiple activity stations, designed to encourage interaction and build relationships. Activities included Halloween trivia, “friendly feud,” target throw, pumpkin decorating, sugar skull painting, and a ball sort game. Each station incorporated icebreaker questions to make it easier for kids and families to engage with one another.

The highlight of the day was a special recognition for Natalie, a partner from Servicon, who received a scroll from Los Angeles County honoring her outstanding work in the community. It was a touching moment that recognized the impact of the event and the ongoing efforts of dedicated individuals like Natalie, whose commitment helps make a difference in the lives of youth in foster care.

The staff from Kidsave’s newest program, Weekend Miracles Virginia, Tammy and Elodie, joined the event to observe and get to know our Los Angeles staff, kids, and adults. Tammy shared her experience, saying, “It is a privilege to participate and meet the youth and volunteers. I will be bringing back a good number of ideas, excitement, and motivation to Virginia.” Their participation highlighted the organization's expanding efforts to connect children in foster care with supportive families across the country.

Longtime volunteer Karen loved experiencing the excitement and joy on the kids’ faces. “When they are here, they are meeting so many wonderful families that are looking to meet children to share their lives with,” she said. “Everyone leaves happy and full of hope.”

About Weekend Miracles

Many wonderful kids in our Weekend Miracles program need a mentor, host, or adoptive family. These older kids in foster care are growing up without the stability and love that all kids need to thrive. If you want to adopt or host a child, please contact us at weekendmiracles@kidsave.org
