Kidsave recently held a Weekend Miracles event in Pasadena! Older kids in foster care came together for an afternoon filled with fun activities and the chance to build lasting bonds with caring adults. For many of these kids, the event was more than just a day of fun – it was a step towards finding their forever families.

Despite the heat, Washington Park in Pasadena was the perfect setting for a day of laughter and connection. Kidsave pulled out all the stops with a variety of engaging activities. There were bean bag tosses and a large inflatable bowling set, ensuring that there was never a dull moment.

Before diving into the fun, everyone gathered for a delicious lunch. The menu was a hit, featuring mouthwatering steak or chicken tacos, savory street corn, and plenty of Gatorade to keep everyone hydrated. To top it off, a fruit truck was on hand offering refreshing fruit cups, perfect for cooling down on a hot day.

With lunch enjoyed and energy levels up, the kids dashed off in various directions, joining their assigned groups and diving into the activities. The smiles were abundant, whether they were knocking down inflatable bowling pins or showing off their bean bag tossing skills. The afternoon was a mix of excitement and new connections as the kids and adults were able to bond over shared experiences and fun challenges.

As the day wound down, everyone gathered again to cool off with well-deserved ice cream. It was the perfect end to the afternoon, leaving everyone looking forward to the next Weekend Miracles event.

Before leaving, volunteers Mike and Tom – who recently finalized their adoption of Dominic, whom they met through Weekend Miracles – stopped to share their thoughts on the day’s events. “All of the youth were able to be successful today, whether they were interacting with adults or playing games,” said Tom.

“What was really great about today's event is that I get to be here both with my husband and with our son who we met through Kidsave,” said Mike. “That the three of us could all volunteer together is a joy and it’s an honor to be able to give back to Kidsave.”

A huge thank you to everyone who made the day possible and to all the kids and adults who brought their energy and enthusiasm. We can't wait to see what the next event has in store!
