Kidsave just said goodbye to 45 Colombian orphans who spent five weeks this summer in the United States meeting families. These are older children, ages 8 through 13, who have little or no chance of finding adoptive parents in their own country. During the summer visit, Kidsave staff, dedicated volunteers and host families work diligently to find adoptive families for these children. Since 1999, more than 1600 children have traveled to the US as part of our Summer Miracles program, and 85% have found families who have adopted them or are pursuing adoption.
Kidsave is seeking individuals interested in adoption to meet the children. We will be bringing a group of children again during the 2010 holiday season – so if you are interested in hosting or helping, please contact Lauren@kidsave.org. We are also organizing now for next summer. Programs are currently organizing in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, the DC metropolitan area, Atlanta, Austin, Miami, Los Angeles and the San Francisco Bay area.
Hosting a child
When you host a Summer Miracles child in your home, the rewards are many. You’ll get to know an orphaned child and enjoy a rich cultural experience as you introduce your host child to fun, new experiences, as well as new people – all with the goal of helping him or her find an adoptive family.
If you have room in your heart and home and would like to host a child, please call Kidsave at 202-280-6322, or email lauren@kidsave.org.
Interested in adopting an older youth?
Kidsave is not an adoption agency. However, through our program we connect youth with caring adults who are interested in adoption and refer families to partnering placement agencies. If you are interested in adopting an older youth, we encourage you to attend one of our information sessions or Summer Miracles community events and meet the children who are participating in our program.
Summer Miracles® Communities and Locations
Each year Kidsave works with communities across the country to establish Summer Miracles communities. These communities consist of a group of local families and volunteers who together commit to hosting children for five weeks during the summer. In addition to hosting children in their community, volunteers help to raise funds, organize events, advocate for each child’s adoption through community and media outreach, and secure support services for the children, including medical, translation, event planning and more.
Kidsave provides training and support to participating families. We collaborate with social workers, home study agencies, child welfare advocates, health professionals and government officials to find safe, appropriate families for these children.
Kidsave Summer Miracles communities are currently located Southern CA; Northern CA; Metro Washington DC (including Northern VA and MD); Atlanta, GA; Metropolitan NY (including NJ, NY and CT); and Austin, TX.
